from “The Honey"

Canto Eighteen

When the blackbird escaped from Pidio the shoemaker
we waited for it in the courtyard
and everytime a shadow  passed
it seemed like it was him.  But it wasn’t.

Then one evening, there was something black
bobbing at the top of the top of the hedge of canes
and it looked at us with little eyes that were like dagger points.
So we moved away from the window
And pretended to pull back the chairs.
